Hi I have cycled for many many years in Bristol. I love it but when I get an angry comment like I just received whilst crossing on a pedestrian crossing on a bike rather than being in the flow of traffic “bloody cyclists you should be on the road” it just gets me down and I take it very personally. You can’t win I feel in the way on the road and unwelcome on a pedestrian crossing. How do people deal with the negativity?

Welcome to the 7th 'Annual Lunacy Distance Challenge'. This challenge is not intended to replace any of the 3 current monthly challenges. They are fine tests of cycling consistency throughout the whole year and I encourage you to attempt any (or all!) of them if you feel able to. This is something different, which you might find interesting. Notably, as the title suggests, it's not monthly, it's annual. Please read on...

Welcome to the Eleventh edition of the half century a month challengeTHIS THREAD IS FOR RIDE REPORTS ONLY - discussions should take place over in the 2025 chatzoneThere were already challenge threads for monthly imperial centuries (100 mile rides) and metric centuries (100 km or 62.14 mile rides). So
@ColinJ thought it would be a nice idea to come up with an easier challenge for those who don't have the time, energy or inclination to do the longer rides so he created the half...

That is a thread for owners of large SUVs, not owners of SUVs who happen to be large. Although if you are large yourself that is no disqualification.Qualification criteria for membership, and thus discussion of your vehicle:Minimum weight: 1.75 tonnes.Transmission: AWD, 4WD, either selectable or on demand.Minimum ground clearance: 7 inches/175mm.Ideally more than 4 cylinders and higher capacity than 2 litres, but we're flexible on this point as downsizing of engines is an insiduous...

How many Recumbents have you owned? Was there a logical progression? Which ones have you kept? What have you learnt from the experience? Should I get out more?Perhaps I’m just being self indulgent, but maybe putting down these thoughts might convince someone teetering on the brink to have a go, or a fellow recumbentitis sufferer to recognise some of these themes in themselves.Six in five years. That’s quite a turnover compared with the 11 diamond frame bikes and folders over the...

Everyone knows the first and second best reasons to ride a bent or trike is comfort and the view. IMO the third best reason is you dont have to spend a fortune to buy the "kit" to protect you from your bike. With a bent or trike you can wear almost anything. I for instance wear rugby shorts that I can buy for $15. In the summer time my attire consists of a T-shirt and the rugby shorts. That means when I want to go for a ride, I put on my cycling shoes and ride off.

Mine was so good. (I did go for that ride...glad i did)Just over 20 miles, but since the rear ends a bit sore...Suns been shining here all day, 13 or 14 degrees, 15 mph winds made it a bit slow on the outrun, but fast home (20 -25 mph for 6 miles ). Very very glad i went....now i feel guilty about feeling good How was yours....

Who uses the Imatra cycling app that’s always on the TNT adverts? I’ve just installed & linked to Garmin connect. Digital currency, I have my doubts about it. Maybe you just get a slight discount when cashing in. I can’t see you buying cycling things out right.

Rans Stratus XP Update 1/7/25Owned since 21/3/25, a bit over 3 months. It’s taken a while to get it the way I want it. Some random thoughts.Compared with the Linear, which is the only true LWB that I can compare it with, its steering is … different. The Linear feels neutral, though any feedback to the rider is damped by the steering linkage as well as any front wheel road buzz. Not only is the steering direct on the Rans, but when static it’s noticeable that the...

So the latest grand plan from the UCI to make racing safer is to restrict gears to a mere 54x11 (most of us that raced on maybe 53 x 12 maximum are probably struggling with the idea of a gear that size!). Dan Bigham has done a lot of research (that I suspect the UCI skipped) and concluded that riders will be maxed out for between 0.1 and 0.01% of a race and that the only affect it will have on safety is to detract from discussing issues that may actually help (he suggests helmets tested for...
