Plenty of cyclists out there who own a car made by the prancing moose. About time we had a thread of our own to discuss the trials and tribulations of Volvo ownership, and generally pat each other on the back for driving superior cars.

So, who else drives a Volvo, and wotcher got?

A little game that was recommended to me over the festive break: https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/
I’m quite enjoying the daily word puzzle.

...thread.

How about a topic discussing all things regarding the great game.

Chat about anything from Arsenal to Accrington or John Terry to Terry Yorath.

I'm just happy as my team Norwich City have made it through to the 5th round of the FA Cup !!!

A thread specially for 'persons of leisure' and independent means, or those with aspirations.
How do you while away those lazy days?
How do you cope financially?
When did you retire?
Is retirement what you expected?
How long did you take to adjust?
Etc.

Tell us what you are up to today or what plans you have.
Or just have a bit of silliness to while away those lazy hours.

I've been busy today. Hilly 15 mile ride in North Devon, took dog for a stroll along Saunton Sands, cut the front lawn..

Whilst that hew example is a recumbent trike it sounds a useful variation of a torque sensor equipped bike.

I’ll be going over Ventoux as part of a tour in September and wondering on opinions for best gearing. I currently have 34/34 as my lowest gear and wondering whether to invest in a 32/48 crankset to give a slightly lower gear. I’m around 3w/kg at 66 years old and would probably think my current gearing ok for a one off ascent, it’s really because it’s part of a two week journey from Channel to Med that I’m considering it. Any thoughts welcome.

There's a little thing that doesn't bother us at first, like a little foible we find endearing in a loved one until it grows beyond tolerance and makes you want to plunge a red hot poker into thei....but then becomes a MAJOR annoyance.

I'm going to go for the trivialest (is that a word? It is now!) thing that causes the most annoyance; i-pod and i-pad. Not the items themselves but their words! They are TOO similar and inevitably lead to you saying one when really, you are trying to say..

I went into Halfords and bought some Muck Off (getting ready for the weekend cleaning ) and some chain lube. The guy dropped the chain lube and it broke and spilled out over the floor lol

As the end of my lease nears, I have been thinking about what to go for next. I'm not that keen on the ID4 again as the tech is pretty crap as are the facilities compared to rivals.
Up until recently I've always coveted a Tesla Y (can't afford an X).

So - which is the best EV in terms of tech and equipment now that Tesla are about to fall off a cliff?
What would you go for (bearing in mind I'm looking at a medium range family car, not a runaround)?

I quite like the look of the Ioniq 5 but..

It appears that motorists don't appreciate my Road Tax jersey or at least I had far more close passes today then any other day for a few months.

I saw my first 'bent out in the wild. Obviously I've seen them before but this was the first time it belonged to someone I didn't know. Strange design too, very long wheelbase with what looked like a normal headtube over the front wheel, steered from underseat but the front wheel was a long way from the rider.

More and more helmet wearers that..

Due to ill health I've not been abroad in over a year. I'd really like to hop over the Lanzarote. 2 things putting me off.

1.Jet Fuel shortages - a lot of reports these will start to have in impact soon

2.This new entry system - where from what I can gather finger prints are actually collected and authorised and the airports with resulting queues.

My wife has MS which means standing for any length of time isn't an option. When we book we usually get assistance at the outgoing airport -..

We don't seem to have a thread for castles. We have one for ruins, which fits most castled, but I don't think this one - Caerphilly Castle is really a ruin.

How about a thread of your walk today or recently??

I'll start

Hartland manor to the sea.

Love the manor, wife and youngest went round the manor whilst I walked the dog round the grounds, then a 1.5mile walk to the beach - large pebbles tbh.

Sadly my dad passed away in 2019. We have found a Pat Rohan’s frame silver and would like to try and work out its age so we can sell it. It might be 70s or 80s, dad must have bought it at the shop in Rayner Lane as he was a very keen cyclist and was part of the Kenton Road Club for years, and we live in the same Borough.
We also have a ladies Raleigh bike bought from there from early 80s. Only thing that been changed has been tyres and poss saddle. Trying to work out the best place to sell..

This is sort of money related so putting it here .
I'm most likely going to retire from my 36 hour p/w job in a few months.
Now I want to supplement my pension income with a few hours work each week, I'm thinking ideally 10-15 hours per week, preferably 10 , had something lined up with current employer that suited but that's fallen through. Would there be much call for so few hours p/w from potential employers, going to knock on a few doors soon to find out but I think it's highly unlikely..

Here we go then: a single space to discuss the major one day races in Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy and Northern France.

Scope to include both the Flanders/ cobbled and Ardennes/hilly types as they barely overlap (although I can see an argument for Fleche Wallonne to be in the Sh*t small races thread)
The Italians get a pass for their 1 and a half spring monuments

Het Volk
Strade Bianche
Milan San Remo
Ronde Van Brugge
E3 Saxo
In Flanders fields (G-W)
Dwars
Ronde
Paris Roubaix
Brabantse..
