2018-03-17 (9:04AM): Currently in the process of updating this website
Currently, all the projects I create online and basically everything I do computer related is on a 2009 Acer Aspire One D250 Netbook. In the past I always considered myself fortunate because I had the opportunity to work with either fairly current computers or in the case of my last computer an extremely fast computer.
So when it came time to downgrade to a 2009 netbook it is safe to say I was a little worried in regards to the overall abilities of this machine. I would be going from a top-of-the-line i7 to a much older 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 and from 16 gigabytes or ram to 2 gigabytes (upgraded from 1 gigabyte).
However, my worries didn’t last long. This machine has been an absolute dream and has exceeded my loftiest expectations. I’ve been using the Aspire One for about six months since I purchased it used. I take this little computer with me everywhere I go. Since I’m in Miami it is often exposed to extreme heat. And so far that hasn’t affected it in the slightest.
Surfing the web is a breeze. I usually have multiple browsers open with multiple tabs open in each browser. The computer rarely if ever freezes. I have Skype, an Office Suite, a PDF editor, pop3 e-mail client (with over 20K emails stored on the local drive) and a mass of other smaller programs I use from time-to-time. I even edited a few smallish videos with MS Movie Maker.
The last website I designed (Wowzers.us) I did entirely with this computer – including uploading almost all of the images (over 8K images).
The Aspire One I purchased is a bit scratched up because I purchased it used, but the overall design is modern, sleek and looks great even by today’s standards. I also did a bunch of things to make it run a bit smoother. I made sure no unnecessary programs were running in the background and I run CCleaner along with an antivirus scanner at least once a week. Plus, I have enough experience surfing-the-web to limit my exposure to malware as much as possible.
In the end, there is not much negative I can say about this netbook. The mouse pad is far from great, but rarely do I use it and I did know that before making the purchase. And really, very few laptops or netbooks meet my expectations as far as the mouse pad is concerned. The graphics by todays standards are not up to par. Though, since I use it mostly for web related projects, its not a big issue. Plus, the glossy 10.1-inch widescreen helps greatly. All-in-all as I am sure you can see by reading this post I have been very pleased with the everyday useability and durability of the Acer Aspire One D250.
Here comes another wildly exciting post. Well not really, just another test post / update.
Two new quotes have been added to the Wowzers.us quotes section along with a bunch of movie posters to the movie posters section. I created Wowzers a couple of months ago. It’s kind of hard to explain exactly what Wowzers is, but I’ll try. The site has a bunch of different areas containing images, videos and information. The idea of the site is to provide fun, interesting and informative content. Plus, users have access to upload their own content to the site or comment on the content that has already been uploaded. Wowzers is fully operational, but there are a few somewhat minor updates / changes that still need to be done.
Three new news stories have been added to NewsStop.us.
News Stop had been dormant for the better part of a year. As some of you know I was sick for a while and couldn’t keep up with all the web sites I run. News Stop was one of those sites that suffered. Its now being updated regularly and is fully operational.
